Working with Teens
Art therapy for teenagers offers a relaxed, creative space where thoughts and feelings can be explored without pressure to talk everything through.
Teenagers may use drawing, painting, collage, clay, or sand tray work during sessions. Some find art helps release emotion; others use it to reflect, experiment, or make sense of what’s going on internally. Talking can happen alongside the art, or not at all - both are welcome.
Sessions are shaped around what feels safe and manageable for the young person. The therapist works at the teenager’s pace, supporting expression and reflection while respecting boundaries and choice.
Art therapy can be helpful for teenagers experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties, or life transitions. It provides a consistent, non-judgemental space to explore experiences, build understanding, and develop ways of coping - using creativity as a supportive tool.
